About NOUTUR
At a key moment in its trajectory, the NOUTUR group is undertaking advanced academic and applied research in four interrelated main lines, based on solid social science approaches to the study of tourism, leisure, and related mobilities. The goal of this new, more professionalized phase is to gain an in-depth understanding of the interrelationships between tourism and the associated socio-economic, environmental, and cultural processes, as well as its impacts on stakeholders and destinations. Additionally, we aim to explore policies and strategies that promote digital and green transitions towards more responsible and sustainable tourism scenarios.
Our future approach to tourism research will differ from that of other research groups in the field; we do not see tourism as an isolated phenomenon but rather as one that is influenced by and impacts other social, economic, environmental, and cultural processes, which, in turn, shape our daily lives. Our perspective looks both to the past and the future: we pay attention to dominant patterns and paradigms, as well as to future transition projections and the best ways to respond to them effectively.
The group seeks to continue providing and transferring transformative solutions to address the challenges of the ‘twin transition’ – ecological and digital. We aim for our research outcomes to be closely aligned with our objectives of knowledge transfer, dissemination, and internationalization. In this regard, the group focuses its activities on the strategic cross-cutting axis of the Economics and Business Studies department, particularly in sustainability, digitalization, and management, as well as on the UOC missions of ‘Social Transition and Sustainability’ and ‘Ethical and Human Technology.’ When necessary, we will position ourselves at the frontier of knowledge in our field, without losing sight of the need for our research to be relevant and beneficial to society—whether in an academic sense or with the potential for direct application.
NOUTUR is currently recognized as a Consolidated SGR (2022-2025) and aspires to grow qualitatively, quantitatively, and collaboratively within the new framework of Research Units at our university. In the coming years, we will make a strong commitment to growth through securing leading research projects and attracting postdoctoral and predoctoral talent, while also strengthening collegial collaborations with other UOC researchers and groups and consolidating our external networks. This will enable us to respond effectively to funding and publication opportunities. We also seek to reinforce the strong link between our research and teaching within the EEE, ensuring that research findings translate into innovative and up-to-date content for the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Tourism, as well as for the UOC-RedINTUR PhD program in Tourism, through which we are already expanding our training capacity.
