El futuro de los servicios de transporte a demanda

El 7th International Workshop on the Sharing Economy tuvo lugar entre los días 24 y 26 de febrero de 2021, organizado por los Estudios de Economía y Empresa de la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya UOC.
Dado el enorme impacto que la pandemia de la COVID-19 está teniendo en la economía colaborativa/de plataformas en todo el mundo, varios participantes del workshop fueron invitados a participar en una serie de vídeos titulada Economía colaborativa de la UOC: perspectivas post-COVID-19.
Esta serie de videos presenta a ocho ponentes del 7th IWSE, compartiendo sus propias perspectivas y proyecciones sobre cómo la pandemia de la COVID-19 puede afectar las diferentes dimensiones de la economía colaborativa a corto, mediano y largo plazo, en el contexto específico de su propia investigación particular sobre la economía colaborativa/de plataformas.
En este capítulo de la serie audiovisual «Sharing Economy UOC, Post-COVID19 Perspectives», la profesora del Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (México), Jelena Starcevic, presenta su investigación sobre el futuro de los servicios de transporte a demanda.
Como explica Starcevic, “con el distanciamiento social y la movilidad reducida, el impacto sobre el sector del transporte a demanda fue enorme, experimentó una reducción de entre un 70 y un 80% en su negocio”. Con todo ello, los conductores de este sector de los viajes privados son los que más se vieron afectados negativamente por la pandemia, “por su condición de trabajadores independientes, no gozaban de ninguna protección laboral o social”.
La profesora opina que, tras la pandemia, debe haber “un cambio en la regulación de la situación de los conductores en el sector del transporte a demanda” y espera que “en el futuro veremos una condiciones laborales mucho más dignas en este sector de la economía compartida”

The 7th International Workshop on the Sharing Economy took place on 24th-26th February 2021, hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business of the Open University of Catalonia UOC.
Given the enormous impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the sharing/platform economy worldwide, several participants of the workshop were invited to take part in a video series entitled ‘UOC Sharing Economy – post-Covid19 perspectives’.
This specially-commissioned video series features eight presenters from the 7th IWSE programme, each sharing their own perspectives and projections on how the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to affect different dimensions of the sharing economy in the short, medium and long term, in the specific context of their own particular research on the sharing /platform economy.
In this chapter of the audiovisual series «Sharing Economy UOC, Post-COVID19 Perspectives», Jelena Starcevic, professor at the Monterrey Institute of Technology (Mexico), presents her research on the future of ride-hailing services.
As Starcevic explains, «with social distancing and reduced mobility, the ride-hailing sector was particularly hard-hit, reporting a 70–80% drop in business». The drivers in this ride-hailing sector were most negatively impacted by the pandemic and, «being independent workers, they were not eligible for any labour or social protection».
The professor believes that, after the pandemic, there must be «a change in the regulation of the status of drivers in the ride-hailing sector», and she hopes that «in the future, we will see a significant improvement in work conditions in this segment of the sharing economy».
