The 7th International Workshop on the Sharing Economy took place on 24th-26th February 2021, hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business of the Open University of Catalonia UOC

Given the enormous impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on the sharing/platform economy worldwide, several participants of the workshop were invited to take part in a video series entitled ‘UOC Sharing Economy – post-Covid19 perspectives’.

This specially-commissioned video series features eight presenters from the 7th IWSE programme, each sharing their own perspectives and projections on how the COVID-19 pandemic is likely to affect different dimensions of the sharing economy in the short, medium and long term, in the specific context of their own particular research on the sharing /platform economy.

In this chapter of the audiovisual series «Sharing Economy UOC, Post-COVID19 Perspectives», doctoral student from Kyoto University’s Graduate School of Economics Marc Chataigner analyses the motivations of an amateur host to contribute to P2P platforms within the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the study performed by Chataigner, «the collaborative economy in the tourism industry has been mainly affected by travel restrictions». In response, some platforms and amateur hosts have updated their services and offer accommodation for the two-week self-quarantine and spaces for teleworking, for example.

Regarding the future of the P2P hospitality platforms, Marc Chataigner asks whether they will evolve toward more domestic and less international demand.
