Global pandemic of the Covid-19 disease, has generated an unprecedented crisis in all socioeconomic areas, including education. To contain Covid-19, the governments imposed strict epidemiological restriction. Around the world, face-to-face universities had to make the transition from using classic teaching techniques to implement remote emergency teaching in just a few days.

The scientific article we present today talks about this topic, which has been written by Raquel Ferreras Garcia, Jordi Sales Zaguirre and Enric Serradell López, all three are members of Management & e-Learning (MeL) research group. The article was published in Campus Virtuales in 2022.

Objectives and Methodology

This analysis enables to know the point to which the pandemic has affected students’ learning experiences and to implement actions to improve future possible effects of future emergency remote teaching situations.

In order to conduct the research, data were collected on face-to-face students in their first year at the faculty of Economics and business from one university and on e-learning students from the other university. A total of 207 completed questionnaires were collected.

Results and conclusions

The findings of this study show that the pandemic has affected the development of competences, despite the students considering that they had achieved the learning objectives. However, this effect was varied depending on the student’s university of origin. The online university students were affected more in terms of the development of competences, while the face-to-face university students were affected more in terms of the results of their learning process.

This study provides valuable insights for universities and academic researchers, offering relevant information to assist them in addressing future pedagogical challenges and refining approaches to online learning. In this context, university administrators are urged to prioritize student competencies when crafting and executing online educational programs, aiming to enhance teaching quality and ensure an optimal student experience.
