Àngels Fitó, new president

Àngels Fitó was appointed President of the UOC on Thursday 13 April at a ceremony held in the auditorium of the Can Jaumandreu headquarters. Fitó pointed out that the horizon of the project she envisions at the head of the institution can be summarized in three axioms.

  1. The first is to evolve what we do well, to revolutionize what we can do better, such as open and shared itineraries, personalized, pedagogical and professional support, open transdisciplinary and translational research and innovation as a driver of change among the most important values that the institution champions.
  2. Secondly, he stressed that to do it in the company of others is to do it better, and that at the UOC, like people, we are strengthened by alliances.
  3. Finally, he noted the importance of social impact, which is non-negotiable.

Àngels Fitó holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Barcelona, is a senior lecturer at the UOC and, as of 2019, Vice President for Competitiveness and Employability, at the university.

His areas of research are financial harmonization processes, management control systems and the transformative impact of higher education on employability, taking into account the complexity of labor dynamics. In this field, he leads various local and international initiatives to reconfigure a higher education space that responds to the challenges of lifelong learning posed by the current transition context.
