Emotional expression patterns
2023in individual and collaborative learning in early childhood education
This research focuses on the analysis of emotional patterns during individual and collaborative learning activities in early childhood education. There is a direct relationship between positive emotions and learning, and emotions are experienced with greater intensity during spontaneous and cooperative play.
The study is based on data collected in educational app activities and plans to collect new data in educational robotics activities. Research objectives include identifying emotional patterns in preschool children, analyzing the relationships between emotions and learning activities, and comparing patterns between individual and collaborative action. Automatic face recognition is used to identify children’s emotional expressions.
To look for patterns of emotional variation, we are working on a model that simplifies interpretation and analysis by arithmetically reducing the data and converting this numerical data into symbolic units of analysis (graphemes). It is expected that the results of this work will contribute to simplifying the analysis of patterns of emotional behavior in children and allowing the automatic selection of emotional variations for qualitative analysis.
