The document “Six Pillars For the Digital Transformation of Education – A Common Framework” by UNESCO breaks down the essential components of digital transformation in education from a systems perspective. The outer layer of the framework represents the vision (purpose, priorities and principles) while the inner layer comprises the six pillars: coordination and leadership; connectivity and infrastructure; cost and sustainability; capacity and culture; content and solutions; and data and evidence. The framework serves as a tool to support decision-makers in the development of a holistic vision and participatory strategies for the use of technology to advance education system goals, allowing education stakeholders who use it to respond more effectively to new developments, emerging technologies and evolving educational needs.

The purpose of this paper is to advocate for a systems-led, human-centred, holistic, sustainable, balanced and forward-thinking approach to the digital transformation of education. It provides detailed descriptions of and recommendations for each pillar, followed by an explanation of how to and why countries should use the framework as a tool for collaboration and strategy development

A tool to foster cooperation across sectors and partners, that actors can adapt to their contexts and to help education leaders strategize and self-assess.
