18 June, 2025UOC UNESCO Chair in Education and Technology for Social Change continues to support EDEN Best Research Paper Award in the EDEN 2025 Annual Conference in Bologna, Italy, 15-17 June, 2025.
The Director of the UNESCO Chair, Prof. Albert Sangrà, presented this special award to Felipe Tessarolo, Chris Edwards, Duygu Bektik, and Denise Whitelock from The Institute of Educational Technology (The Open University, United Kingdom) for the paper titled “GenAI as an Educational Gatekeeper: Balancing Personalisation and Standardisation in Higher Education”. The jury was formed by Gila Kurtz (Holon Institute of Technology, Israel)(Chair), Teresa Romeu (Edul@b Research Group, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) and Maurizio Sobrero (Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna, Italy).
The study explores how generative AI (GenAI) is shaping the future of higher education by acting as both a tool for personalised learning and a mechanism for standardisation. It discusses the tension between tailoring education to individual student needs (personalisation) and maintaining consistent academic standards and fairness (standardisation).
The paper will be available soon as part of the EDEN 2025 Annual Conference Proceedings.
