Transdisciplinary research on contemporary social challenges

Visit of Professor and Researcher Paulo Reyes

On the afternoon of May 26th, the Nodes group had the honour of receiving a visit from Paulo Reyes, professor and researcher of the Postgraduate Programme in Urban and Regional Planning (PROPUR) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC).

With a long academic career, Professor Paulo Reyes has focused on the critical study of urban projects and their aesthetic and political implications. His research has developed along two main thematic lines: the critique of urban projects from a political perspective, incorporating the political dimension into the process of city-making, and the analysis of emerging and marginal topics that generate a critical view of hegemonic processes.

Throughout his career, Professor Paulo Reyes has collaborated closely with prestigious European teaching and research institutions. In 2005, he served as a professor at the TE TSAB.05 International Summer Workshop at the Barcelona School of Architecture. In 2006, he worked as an evaluator and external consultant in the Doctoral Programme in Design and Exploitation of Technologies for Cultural Heritage at the Polytechnic University of Milan. In 2007/2008, he served as an evaluator for the Research Units of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology.

Currently, Professor Paulo Reyes’s main research focus lies in incorporating critical thinking into urban projects, transcending their technical dimension through contributions from the philosophy of difference.

The Nodes group expresses sincere gratitude to Professor Paulo Reyes for his time and for sharing his vast knowledge and experience with the academic community at UOC.
