Virtual teamwork is considered as one of the key skills to employer in the recruitment process because of the globalization of business and technological advancement. The company needs employees skilled in virtual team-work to run their globalized business process. So, it becomes important for the graduates to have a good skill, knowledge, and ability about virtual teamwork through their higher education before starting their professional career.
About this topic talks the article that we present today, which is written by Akinul Islam Jony and Enric Serradell López, this last member of the Management & e-Learning (MeL) research group. The article was published in Research and Innovation Forum 2020.
Objectives and Methodology
This paper aims to evaluate a virtual teamwork model that is proposed to develop effective virtual teamwork in the context of online higher education, so that graduates can acquire solid knowledge and skills about virtual teamwork. The model is evaluated by applying the statistical technique of partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to validate the statistical significance of the model.
Results and Conclusions
The results indicate that the proposed virtual teamwork model has a significant positive impact on the effectiveness of virtual teamwork in online higher education. The analysis, conducted using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) technique, revealed that all relationships within the structural model were statistically significant, with confidence intervals not including zero. This suggests that the constructs of Motivation, Communication, Knowledge Sharing, Trust, Cohesion, and Coordination effectively contribute to enhancing performance in virtual teamwork settings.
In conclusion, the evaluation of the virtual teamwork model demonstrates its utility in developing essential skills for graduates in online higher education. The findings suggest that by implementing this model, educational institutions can better equip students with the necessary knowledge and abilities to succeed in virtual teamwork environments, which are increasingly demanded by employers in a globalized business landscape. This research contributes to the understanding of how structured approaches to virtual teamwork can enhance educational outcomes and prepare graduates for their professional careers.
