Genders in Transition: Masculinities, Affects, and Bodies

Miguel Rivas Venegas

Miguel Rivas Venegas is Doctor Summa Cum Laude in Art History from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2018) postdoctoral researcher of the EU-Commission Excellence Programme Maria Zambrano (2022-) and former postdoctoral researcher of the Spanish Ministry of Science-funded Programme Juan de la Cierva at the University of the Basque Country (2020-2022). Having developed his PhD research as an invited researcher at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, his work grasped the compared analysis of visual communication and language use of transnational fascism, with specific focus on the “visual-lexical arsenals” of Francoism and Nationalsocialism. His current research focuses on the qualitative analysis of the political Sprachverwendung (language use) of Spanish right-wing populism in transnational perspective (German-speaking countries, Italy, France) and the simultaneous study of the self-representation strategies and visual materials produced by contemporary Rechtspopulismus in Europe. His present-day research interests include: Nation-building narratives, the study of national identities in Spain, Italy and Germany; the analysis of the populist visual messa in scena and the nachleben –political and cultural survival– of monster narratives in diverse political contexts. He is member of the research group Historical Memory of the Iberian Literatures; the Cluster of Excellence EXC 2020 Temporal Communities: doing literature in a Global Perspective (Freie Universität Berlin) where he was researching as Postdoctoral Fellow in 2019; Arts of Memory (FU Berlin) as well as part of the research group Erinnerungskulturen und -politiken (Technische Universität Berlin). He researched and worked, amongst other places, at the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung and at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.
