On November 19, 2024, the seminar Critical Cartographies took place, a journey inscribed in the project Digital Cartographies, Cures and Urban Mobility, financed by UOC. This is an interdisciplinary project coordinated by Inés Martins from the Nodes group and Efraín Foglia from Mediaccions group, which offered this journey dedicated to exchanging experiences on cartographic practices and fostering subsequent reflection. Throughout the event, approximately 50 attendees participated in a dialogue led by speakers Inés Martins, Efraín Foglia, Pablo Martinez, and Núria Font Casaseca. Their goal was to shed light on dynamics often overlooked in urban planning.
This seminar was a key event for understanding urban inequalities, a highly relevant topic, especially for vulnerable groups. Discussions also focused on issues such as care and mobility in public spaces. Finally the journey concluded with a round table in which research groups from UOC such as Nodes, Mediaccions, Gentic, Turba, and CoSIN3 participated. After sharing their perspectives, the seminar paved the way for further applications of critical cartographies through new collaborations and research initiatives. Altogether, through a roundtable discussion, presentations of critical cartography projects developed at the UOC, and a concluding debate, the event offered a unique perspective on understanding and representing the everyday experiences of urban dwellers, as well as their struggles and needs within city life.
