In January 2024, Professor and researcher Dr. Inés Martins was invited by Dr. Juliana Guimarães Faria, from the Faculty of Letters of the Federal University of Goiás (PPGLL/FL/UFG), to carry out a research and teaching stay. As part of this stay, Dr. Martins conducted a seminar on qualitative methodologies applied to the social sciences for students in the doctoral program at the Faculty of Letters, with the particular inclusion of both deaf and hearing students, as well as the participation of interpreters in the classroom.

During the seminar, Martins shared with the students the methodologies applied in ongoing research projects of the NODES group. She also led a workshop on cartography to explore the potential of digital mapping as a methodological tool for gathering qualitative data, focusing especially on the analysis of urban mobility of deaf people.

In addition to her teaching work, Dr. Martins held meetings with the leadership of the Department of Sign Language and Translation at FL/UFG and with the UFG Inclusion Secretariat, aiming to foster institutional collaboration. These meetings were used to explore the feasibility of a future agreement between UFG and the NODES group to promote joint research projects and knowledge transfer.

Dr. Martins’ visit has already generated new academic results, such as the creation of a scientific article documenting the experience during the seminar held in January 2024. The article, titled “Use of Visual Mapping as a Data Collection Strategy with Deaf Participants in Qualitative Research,” has been accepted by the journal Revelli (ISSN 1984-6576) and is pending publication.

The collaboration between the Faculty of Letters at UFG and Dr. Inés Martins is not new: since 2019, Martins and Guimarães have published several articles together. In 2023, this collaboration culminated in the publication of the book “Accounts and Reflections on Distance Education: A Dialogue Between Brazil and Spain,” edited by Cegraf UFG and co-organized by both researchers.

Looking toward the future, this collaboration continues to bear fruit: in 2025, Dr. Juliana Guimarães Faria will carry out a postdoctoral stay at the UOC with the NODES group to continue working together on projects related to education and inclusion, further strengthening the academic ties between the two institutions.
