“Advancing the Institutionalization of Service-Learning in Universities” journey

Last November 18, 2024, the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) successfully celebrated the “Advancing the Institutionalization of Service-Learning (ApS) in Universities”, a key event focused in promoting this educational methodology within Catalan higher education. The session brought together experts, academics, and professionals from the sector in an atmosphere of enriching collaboration and dialogue.

The event emphasized the importance of consolidating Service-Learning as a main strategy in university education. Success stories from various universities implementing this approach were highlighted, showcasing how students combine academic learning with community service projects. The session featured roundtable discussions and practical workshops, encouraging the exchange of good practices and paving the way for partnerships between educational institutions and social organizations.

During the journey, a space dedicated to an exchange of teaching experiences was set up, where posters about projects of Service-Learning where presented. Professors Inés Martins, Amalia Creus, Mirela Fiori and Mariela Iglesias actively participated in this section, sharing their innovative practices and contributing on a rich debate about the potentialities of this methodology. 

This gathering highlighted on the commitment of Catalan universities to educational innovation and social responsibility, positioning Service-Learning as a key tool for developing competencies and shaping engaged citizens.
