CHArt (Computers and the History of Art Group) is calling for papers from art historians, artists, architects and architectural theorists and historians, curators, conservators, computing scientists, scientists, cultural and media theorists, archivists, technologists, educationalists and philosophers. Contributions are welcomed from all sections of the CHArt community on the intersection between art and art history and semantic web developments; cloud computing; data mining; screen scraping; crowd sourcing; mashups; and freely available sites that enable data and images to be stored and accessed. Submissions should be in the form of a 300-400 word synopsis of the proposed paper with brief biographical information (no more than 200 words) of presenter/s, and should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday June 17th 2011.

Critical Information is an interdisciplinary graduate student conference, which provides a platform to assess current scholarship and research at the intersection of art, media, and society, and is particularly interested in engaging papers or projects that address the following issues: Art and Social Theory, Media and Memory, the History and Future of the Image, Mediated Image Making, Identity and Representation in the Mediated Environment, Philosophy and Media, the Work of Art in the Information Age, and more. All themes pertaining to the juncture of media, theory, and the visual arts will be considered. Critical Information is open to all current graduate students and those who have received a graduate degree within the last year. Conference will be held 3 December 2011.

The International Digital Media and Arts Association (iDMA) is seeking abstracts (500 words maximum) for presentation and/or discussion about ideas pushing the edge of digital media and art, particularly as they relate to the merging of design, innovation, and narrative. Creative research that demonstrates the confluence of different disciplines, media, cultures, and technology is particularly encouraged. All abstracts will be refereed for acceptance and should report on the results of creative or research projects that explore innovative areas of new media.

Leonardo Music Journal is soliciting articles and artist’s statements on the role of acoustics and psychoacoustics in music and audio art. Although we are immersed in electronically mediated sound, sound reaches us through acoustic pressure. The sheer physicality of sound, and its quirky interaction with our sense of hearing, has driven many a composer and sound artist to go back to the “year zero” in music – before the codification of melody, rhythm and harmony – and explore fundamental aspects of the physics and perception of sound. MEDIA ART HISTORIES Conference 2013 in Riga!
After Liverpool this Sept/Oct 2011, Melbourne 2009, Berlin 2007 and Banff 2005, the Media Art Histories board has decided to grant the next conference to RIXC Center for New Media Culture in Riga, Latvia. The successful host was chosen from a variety of applications from different continents answering the international call for proposals and the board is pleased that the 5th conference will take place in the heart of the Baltic region.

Renew 2013 will address current tendencies in sustainability quests from various perspectives. As media art is based on increasingly aging technology and is dependent on energy (electricity) the conference will discuss how sustainability approach can be applied to the issues of producing, preserving and representing the media artworks * how to renew them. By focusing on practices and histories of networked media arts, Renew will cover abroad range of topics to include early communication arts (mail, fax, radio,satellite, etc.), net.art and net.radio, open source and network culture, locative media and wireless communities, hybrid networks and electromagnetic art, and at last but not least * artistic investigations of renewable energy, and future visions of art within converged information and energy networks.
Original MISSION STATEMENT Media Art Histories Conference Series:
Recognizing the increasing significance of media art for our culture, this conference series on the Histories of Media Art will discuss for the first time the history of media art within the interdisciplinary and intercultural contexts of the histories of art. Numerous individuals and institutions collaborate to produce the international art history conference series covering art and new media, art and technology, art-science interaction, and the history of media as pertinent to contemporary art.
