Alfonso Sánchez-Romera

Alfonso Sánchez-Romera is a member of the research group ALTER: Crisis, Otherness and Representation at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and a former postdoctoral researcher under the Margarita Salas Grants programme (2022-2024) at the Freie Universität Berlin and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). Before joining the UOC, he completed his MSc in Chinese Studies (Social Research) from the University of Glasgow and a PhD in Intercultural Studies (UAB Extraordinary Doctorate Award). He has undertaken research stays at Peking University, Academia Sinica Taiwan, and Renmin University of China. Additionally, he is the author of the book The Chinese Lifestyle. The Reconfiguration of the Middle Class in Contemporary China, published by Routledge in 2023. His ongoing research in ALTER focuses on cross-regional debates on class during China’s reform and opening-up period, examined through the frameworks of historical sociology and Sinophone studies.
