Maialen Marin-Lacarta

BA in Translation and Interpreting (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), MA in Chinese Studies (Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales), PhD in Chinese Studies (INALCO) and in Translation and Intercultural Studies (UAB). She has also completed graduate and postgraduate studies at Bordeaux 3 University, the University of Sheffield, Beijing University, National Taiwan University and Chengchi University in Taiwan.

Marin-Lacarta is Senior Researcher at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), where she is the Principal Investigator of the project Digital Translations and the Production of Knowledge about China: Ethnography and Action Research (DigiTrans). Prior to joining UOC, she was Assistant Professor in the Department of Translation, Interpreting and Intercultural Studies at Hong Kong Baptist University. She is interested in power relations between literary systems and the complex position of twentieth-century Chinese and Sinophone literatures in the global literary system. She is particularly interested in the production process of translations, the roles and interactions of the agents, and the impact of materiality (print or digital). Her research areas include literary translation, modern and contemporary Chinese literature, literary reception, translation history, ethnographic approaches and digital publishing. She has published in leading journals such as Translation Studies, The Translator, Perspectives and Meta. She is also an award winning Chinese literature translator into Spanish and Basque.
