Urbanisation, Trade and Sustainable Logistics

Home – URBANLOG

URBANLOG is an interdisciplinary research group aiming to address new territorial challenges. In a global context characterised by increasing urbanization rates and a redefinition of the prevailing globalization model, we seek to provide a deeper understanding of the effects brought about by this transformation and to meet the logistical needs of the citizens, particularly concerning the urban-rural dichotomy.

To carry out this research, URBANLOG relies on the conceptual framework of digital and ecological transitions. From a business perspective, the digital transition has become a cornerstone of economic activity, altering traditional value chains and transforming core functional areas such as management, production, marketing, and sales. This shift is not just about adopting new tools to gradually increase productivity but has, in many cases, enabled paradigm shifts that have disrupted the market (e.g., digital platforms). The ecological transition aims to reverse the externalities caused by society as a whole on the planet, with a particular focus on containing activities that have pushed us beyond most of the planetary boundaries. This requires not only measures to improve efficiency but also a transformation of the social and productive model.

The research themes revolve around three main research areas, each associated with specific lines of investigation:
