On ARGOT

The Anarchist Translation Flows and World Literature Project (ARGOT) examines a transatlantic geopolitical space over two decades to explore how anarchists dispersed around the world shared a significant number of literary texts through translations circulated through periodical presses.

Using data mining and innovative digital humanities research methods, combined with a hermeneutic and close-reading approach, ARGOT will open new lines of inquiry into the role of translation and cross-cultural transfer within international anarchism between 1890 and 1910.

Addressing different languages and national contexts, ARGOT will focus on literary translations published in anarchist newspapers and magazines in various American and European port cities. It will also explore and highlight the key role played by women in anarchism, especially in their translation and publishing activities.
